A point gained or two points dropped??

Post  Englands' No.3 on Mon 23 Mar 2009, 11:36 pm

Looking back on yesterdays' game, I'm still not sure what to take from this result. It was a funny match in which we played some great football in the first 20 minutes creating a few chances but coming in at half-time we were a goal down and at each others' throats!. 2nd half we played less football, created fewer chances- score and come away with a point!! But on a personal note I thought we played better against Lodge Park the week before and came away with nothing.
In the 6 games as assistant manager I have been delighted by the effort and commitment by all of you to make things happen and getting results. Having said that - for the first time in these 6 games, the Kingfisher game seemed to see the old negativity and criticism creeping back in. There is nothing worse than showing your frustation in the game where the opposition can see it. When Gaz offered this role to me, we had come off a disappointing performance against the Corks losing 2-1. We both felt at the time that the team were just waiting to get beat in games. The first thing we had to do was make ourselves hard to beat. So this is why we changed to a 4-5-1. Admittedly, not the most adventurous but we thought we could make life hard for other teams and possibly nick a goal. This worked in the first 4 games but the last 2 results may suggest otherwise. In the last 2 games we have still created chances but haven't put them away. I know this can be frustrating when we keep creating but don't see the end product and it does put pressure on the team when defending, but let's not drop our heads and give up - keep going, keep supporting and pushing one another right to the death. There are no easy games and there will not be a game where the opposition will roll over and die, we know what it takes to win games, plenty of hard work and commitment.
There were slight moans and groans yesterday, over team selection, penalty takers, formation and tactics not working. When it comes to team selection, it's upto me and Gaz to pick a team that we think is capable of getting a result. Everyweek, every player is taken into serious consideration and we will have to accept that we will not always get it right. I will also back the decision for the penalty taker 100%, he was the only player who shouted up for the penalty. I still believe the 4-5-1 does work with the players we have. We have done the basics well but now we need to take it a step further, such as attacking in this formation. When in possession we could call it 4-3-3 or 4-2-4 whichever way you want to look at it. It won't happen overnight ecause we simply don't have the time to work on it. All I ask for is patience and your support in whatever choice the management make. If anybody does have a problem or suggestion thenplease come to us and we can look at it. Please don't throw away all your hard work over the last 6 games and let's get a result against the Corks this Sunday, by working hard and plenty of encouragement. Up the Trades!!!
